If it makes you feel better, A lot of us DID/DO buy the books (i got mine on audible and only “pirate” stuff i have purchased) specifically because I REFUSE to not be able to download a book I’ve purchased. I have a personal server where I stream all of my own media that I’ve purchased but I cant do that when you can only use the Audble app to listen to your audiobooks. They destroyed us users rights to “fight piracy” and only encouraged piracy and hurt us legit owners. I feel bad for people who aren’t techy enough to do what I do. Imagine if you bought a physical book but could only read it in the book store you purchased it at. No joke. This is what they (and all other streaming services) have done.
Anyways, Brandon Sanderson has the right idea with his subscription box thing. You get given a direct download to the MP3s of his books. Pirates don’t need help getting them anyways and it gives people like me direct access to the property we own to do with as we want. Still also supports authors and any voice actors involved. I wish audible (and graphic audio omg) would do the same.
