At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut - part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.
It’s the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.
Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of 10,000 planets.
And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune - and remarkable power - to whoever can unlock them.
For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday’s riddles are based in the pop culture he loved - that of the late 20th century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday’s icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes’s oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.
And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.
Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt - among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life - and love - in the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.
A world at stake.
A quest for the ultimate prize.
Are you ready?

This is a really poorly-written book. The only reason to read it is to be astonished as to how the hell it got published followed by why the hell it was turned into a movie.

Your link is “Fake News” or a very one-sided opinion.
Goodreads has it at a 4.28/5.0, so hundreds of thousands don’t agree with you.
Stay ignorant to reality, or troll like-a-boss, some people will believe you and also think this world is flat.

Whew dukester, careful bashing those strawmen, you might hurt yourself.
I personally found this book to be a massive cringe-fest. That being said thanks for the upload shappy.

Shappy2014: are you aware that there is a well-seeded torrent with apparently the same content: https://audioscifi.com/audio-books/ready-player-one-ernest-cline-3/ ? If there is a particular but not obvious reason - like improved quality - to prefer the new torrent over the existing one, please put that in the torrent description. Otherwise, do check beforehand to avoid duplicate torrents. Thank you!

@OP: thx 4 u/l.
@jonwb: nah, strawmen (aka training “Dummies”) are for lvl 1 noobs, so unless you’re an OP dwarf tank needing to bypass a one-way gate, then why bother. That said, some dummies need a good FLAMIN’ fireball.
@The haters: If you don’t game, don’t read LitRPG’s and then get all “raggy”. If you’re an adult want a bit more je ne sais quoi, then stay away from T&YA/children books. If you’re a millennial gamer, then (for this book) too bad, you missed the boat.
It’s really that simple. KISS.

Based on the the comments the people here are under the age of 30. For us old timers this book is a true blast from the bast. As usual the movie does not do justice to the book. The movie has about as much in common with the book as the movie Starship Troopers has in common with Heinlein’s classic.

Great book, and while the movie was good as well, on it’s on merits. I mean, its obviously has differences, but if anyone can better adapt a 20 hour book into a 2 hour then Spielberg, Cameron, or any of the other great directors out there I dare you to try.

So funny…these people that proclaim “WORST BOOK EVER” You can almost sense their arms crossed. I loved it…every bit. Movie was meh.

Jarvix, I agree with your sentiments regarding Starship Troopers, but as I was reading your comment I was expecting you compare the movie to the song by Yes. Not sure what that was about. :-(

The book is great, but I am really looking for a good m4b version not mp3 files. Anyone know where I could find one?
