  Unfortunately, this book series is not as interesting or engaging as I first thought. To state the obvious, insulting readers’ intelligence is never a good idea. A bit more on that later.

  On a second thought, it’s not too bad, I overcame the initial DNF impulse, now almost made it to the end of book one. Still, I wanted to add a few words, in particular why I decided to remove the “hard sci-fi” qualifier: (i) a super antimatter engine, but next to zero mentions of anything like “antimatter production” or “antimatter containment” or “output “power” etc, but too many references to unspecified regular “fuel”, flowing through regular pipes and pumps instead; (ii) space navigation and course corrections part is maddeningly vague, the author does not bother to describe it in usual terms of distance, acceleration and speed, instead he rambles incessantly about “major burns”, where the number of such burns in one direction never matched to that in the opposite one; (iii) major disasters and catastrophes en route somehow quickly and magically resolve itself, but next to zero explanations given (fuel pipe explosion after the unplanned major burn, severe Jeff’s injuries, major spaceship course corrections); (iv) even though the mission manager Kates’s partner Jeff is flying on that spaceship, where his very life depends on properly functioning “antimatter engine”, when a seemingly knowledgeable guy shows up and tries to convey some important related information, she opts to chase him away with a baseball bat, what a stunningly clever move for otherwise seemingly very smart lady; (v) “greedy Earth’s fingers” that cannot wait to reach Titan and use its resources, give me a break.
