For those of you who have seen the movie, the book is better by far. A “coming of age” story about a young man. Still plenty of action and good hard science fiction. One of my favorite Heinlein books.

comicstripper - thats debatable. I never managed to finish the book (despite giving it several attempts throughout 20 years). Maybe i was spoiled by the many better military science fiction books. Unless you have nostalgia goggles on, Starship Troopers is pretty meh.
As for the first movie? At the time i thought it was awesome. But last time i saw it was in the 90’s. I dont know how well it has aged since.

They aren’t really comparable IMO. While the setting, characters and plot are broadly similar they each aim to explore very different themes.

There’s so many things about this book that the author does so well. All the issues he discusses about society are so relevant today it’s disgusting.
