Starting in book 6, I’ve begun to to remove sibilance, the harsh “S” sound, from files before sharing them. While the recording of this series is by no means the worst I’ve heard in an audiobook, I’ve often been annoyed by sibilance (especially when in the car) and thought I’d try to filter it out. I think it turned out alright. I’d appreciate feedback: do you think that in future posts I should:
(a) use a higher setting to remove more sibilance
(b) use a lower setting to remove less sibilance
(c) keep it at it’s current level
(d) not filtering whatsoever

Thanks mate. A quick suggestion. Rather than splitting the book in mp3 according to chapters you could use AUDIO CUTTER In Android to convert it into an Audiobook format

@nsx18478 I assume “AUDIO CUTTER” outputs a single .m4b file (which has support for chapters) and that’s something I have considered. But I’ve decided against it because:
1. Every app/device can play an .mp3, and while .m4b support is now quite common, it’s not a given. I would feel like a dick if someone who found this torrent, downloaded it and was super bummed out when they realized it was in a format that wouldn’t play on their Zune or whatever. Obviously, that person should upgrade, but I’m not going to force them to go download three different garbage shareware apps that only encodes the first 15 minutes for free before they finally find something like audacity.
2. When I download an audiobook torrent, I like to start listening as soon as possible. If it looks like the download is going to be slow or even if I’m not sure that I will enjoy the book, I’ll typically go into the “files” view of my app and deselect all the files except for the first/second chapter. Once those are downloaded I’ll have a listen and assuming I like the beginning, I’ll enable all the files to get the whole book. Most torrent clients have an option for sequential download (so you start downloading the beginning of a file before the rest of it) but same issue as my first point: I don’t want to make assumptions about what features their torrent app supports, or if they’re aware of what “enable sequential download” means, or that their player app is able to play a .m4b file which has only the first half downloaded.

Thank you, I also prefer the mp3 files. They play on everything. I usually put a copy of the files on my phone and really like to delete the chapters as I listen to them, clearing space and making sure I know roughly where I left off listening. Every combined m4b etc file I download starts off by being converted and split into mp3 files so you’re even saving me a couple steps!

hey all….try to imagine that my answer is NOT me being salty and sarcastic, but in fact, quite honest and helpful from someone who DEVOURS lit of ALL TYPES on a regular. if you have a prob with m4b, heres the solution: Go to any file editor, pull up the file, and using the backspace or delete key, erase the letters m4b, then, replace them with the letters mp3. 99.5 percent of the time, you can then simply load, and enjoy. keep reading….pass it on!
