On a voyage toward the boundaries of the known universe, nine misfit academics seek out first contact with a shadowy alien race.
But another enigma is the Nightflyer itself, a cybernetic wonder with an elusive captain no one has ever seen in the flesh.
Soon, however, the crew discovers that their greatest mystery and most dangerous threat is an unexpected force aboard the ship wielding a thirst for blood and terror…
Also included are five additional classic George R.R. Martin tales of science fiction that explore the breadth of technology and the dark corners of the human mind.”

Thanks so much for this, Horstman - so grateful for “A Song for Lya” - couldn’t find it elsewhere.

I have admittedly only read GRRM’s A Song of Ice and Fire books, but I am giving this a try. Thank you Horstman.

@caesar — https://audioscifi.com/audio-books/george-r-r-martin-audio-book-collection-george-r-r-martin/ which includes two readings of that, and everything else.

Thanks Gweilo - he wrote an acclaimed, literary, experimental novel about the ’60s music scene, “The Armageddon Rag”, which doesn’t seem to have found its way to audio yet. Possibly because it wasn’t commercially successful, but it sounds very interesting. ASOIAF readers will have to survive on “Fire & Blood” due this November, with the prospect of Brandon Sanderson taking over the helm to complete The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

I know, I read that and all his novels back when they came out. That and Fevre Dream are stories that might be fantasy, or not, depending on how you look at them. But just watching GoT on TV; 1000 page doorstops aren’t my thing.
Nightflyers is highlighted now because there is an upcoming TV series. Pretty weird story, would not be happening but for his name on it.

I remember liking Nightflyers (it was filmed before during the 1980s). Fevre Dream is brilliant (likely to be adapted as well), he said he wants to write more in that world, if he gets time.
I had to stop watching GoT in 2016 because it was spoiling the books, so if I can just avoid all media for the next few years…
George seems to have fired his editor (or he passed away between books) because they’re getting longer each time. He’s quite a portly chap, so the descriptions of banquets alone can go on for pages. That, and the fact that he has to develop the characters a little before he brutally kills them. But he’s great at crafting clever, hard-edged, political fantasy.

:) I put it up mainly because I forgot to do it earlier (a removed request reminded me of it) - and I prefer the Grady narration over Sandvold.
GRRM’s “SF” is a thing on it’s own, and almost like from a different author than Ice&Fire. It would be great to have the “mature” GRRM return to his roots one day.

Thanks for this. The narrator is superb.

Caeser I’ve heard Armageddon will never be an audiobook because of the music in the book and copyright. I believe it too because it’s about the only thing of his not on audio. Fevre dream is one of the five or so vampire works I can enjoy as the lestat type vampire has been done to death. Stoker, del toro, Butler and Simmons are the others.
