OMG, you need to read this if you like any type of military sci fi. The battle scenes are vivid, makes you have PTSD just reading about it.
It may not have the technical descriptions of a David Webber or John Ringo where there is sometimes over impersonal technical description of battle with the horror and fear of war only a faint echo or only emphasized as plot devices.
In this narrative the battles are all about chaos, fear, and hyper aggression, hatred, pain, and despair of fighting a total war over thousands of light years involving whole space faring civilizations and resulting deconstruction when hundreds of millions of combatants clash. The ground combat is brutal, dehumanizing than any other battle testimony fiction or nonfiction.
The space battles are epic, millions of vessels throw missiles, lasers, acid, all type of destruction at each other.
Love the sense of battle lust describe in the novels. The enemy needs to be killed, they are equivocally evil, no moral qualms or moral ambiguity in these novel (maybe in the end.. shrugs), no quotes from Ernest Hemingway about the futility of war. The battle needs to be fought, and the price and horror is beyond comprehensive and not even the most hardened vet is prepared.
The only reservation is the continuing emphasis on the main character’s relationship problems. That seems to a requirement these days to attract the young adult readership, but I found it tolerable, sometimes well done in places.
Really can’t recommend this series enough.
