Since the nukecaust, the American dream has been reduced to a daily fight for survival. In the hellish landscape of Deathlands, few dare to dream of a better tomorrow. But Ryan Cawdor and his companions press on, driven by the need for a future less treacherous than the present.
Pulling sec duty aboard a steamboat on the mighty Sippi is a welcome reprieve for Ryan and his friends…until armored warships reduce their vessel to a burning husk. Abruptly stranded in a nightmarish, poisonous swamp, fighting off crocodiles and muties, the companions and their crew of allies get to work building rafts. Their escape route, however, is swiftly intercepted, and they learn they’ve sailed into the middle of a fierce conflict between two villes fighting over the iron trade. The companions don’t seem to stand a chance against the fleets of ironclad gunboats. But in Deathlands, even the underdog can bite back…

Enjoy Guys!!! Glad to be of service….

Hey OkeeCO! I posted this too (but it wasn’t my rip) and I don’t mind that you posted your rip too but I noticed you said yours is 256 (like the one I posted) but yours is 427, mine is 540MB.
That’s a big difference so I was just wondering what rip settings you used. According to media info viewer me/turones’s version is 256kbps Constant @ 44.1kHz, stereo.
I’m worried there’s something wrong…somewhere…?
Thanks, ♥

oops Turones’s should be, Tyrone’s. lol

I used freac - free audio converter to rip the CD, and told it to keep the original bit rate from the CD

His may also be the downloaded version and not the RIP. easiest way to tell is listen to the very end of the disk file an you will hear it say it is time to change CD which mine has.

I think both rips are complete.
Each set has the same content: 4 files of 60min and the last 49min 10s.
OkeeCO’s is VBR, average 209 Kbps
Dallis’s is CBR 256 kbps.
Both are way into the high fi range.
I think more than 128 kbps is overkill, myself.
Otherwise, OkeeCO, the hotlink image you used does not work.
Please see https://audioscifi.com/forum/faqs/torrents-how-to-add-graph-audio-covers-to-your-torrent/
Or just copy Dallis’s image link for this.

Thank you very much.

Anytime audio is compressed to any degree there will always be some people that can hear it. Like myself.
The best is Lossless flac.
So anything over 128 and as high as you can go with that format is the correct way go and let the downloader determine whats good for them and they can reencode it themselves to a lower bit rate.
Its never overkill to let each individual determine for themselves based on their preference.

RayC1 — Do keep in mind though that not everyone has unlimited bandwidth. Many ISPs are imposing usage caps, so uploading everything at highest quality means some people would have to forgo downloading some books to avoid overage charges.

RayC1 — I can’t determine for myself that I want a smaller download, so I take what I’m offered. However I’m allowed to state my preference, I hope.
This is not a symphonic orchestra.
We’re talking about voices, talking and some explosions.
The frequency range is limited. You think flac is appropriate?
If you have gigabit connections, and terabytes of storage on your player, listen on Bose speakers in a soundproof room, sure.
Most people listen on crummy little earbuds or in a car. Demanding hifi for this is just snobbery. If you think you can tell the difference between 128 kbps and lossless for this under normal conditions, then I bet you also have gold plated Monster cables.
As long as there isn’t any hiss or static or distortion, that’s all I want.
Currently I’m listening to WWOZ, New Orleans Jazz, on a 24 kbps MP3 stream. Because higher bitrates drop out. But it sounds fine.
Just avoid my uploads if low bitrates cause you pain.
I do simple readings at “AM quality”, Q9 VBR, about 30 kbps. Dramatised audio, like Graphic or BF, I might do at FM, about 64.
November 29th, 2015
PS — no disrespect to OkeeCO implied. Your choice what to upload. The VBR setting at least makes it more efficient than CBR.

Ya, mostly I wanted to make sure both were good rips. You nailed the difference Gweilo, thanks!
You may notice I share some “better” books at higher rates for people like RayC but I like, and archive, GA at 128, the rest at 32k. According to “Audible” website, 32 is FM and 64k is CD [equivalent] quality for audiobooks. Anyway, Thanks everybody for sharing your books!!! ♥
