Just for the record, know that we are monitoring the big finish thread on the forum of this website as well.
We posted a message over in the thread in question, but it was soon deleted, and our account banned. Because while stealing our work is apparently perfectly fine, us making any complaints about people doing so, and warning those who do about the possible consequences of their actions if we discover who they are, apparently is not. We shall leave others to decide if there is anything wrong with that particular equation…

Well Mr Big Finish perhaps if your prices weren’t so ridiculous people would actually buy your stuff. As it is I can purchase an entire series of Dr Who TV in HD for the price of one of your ‘audio-dramas’. You’d have to be a very rich person to keep up with all your ranges. Why not think about changing your pricing policies to get those of us that would like to be honest back into the fold.

As has been stated again and again, our prices barely allow us to cover costs. Despite what you may wish to believe, no one is getting rich at Big Finish. The more people who steal rather than purchase, the higher the price is forced into being, just in order just to stay afloat and keep producing future releases. Practically everything we make from those ‘ridiculous prices’ goes back into paying the talent, covering production and associated costs, and setting up future releases. We do our best to be as affordable as we can given the circumstances, and significant savings can be made by pre-ordering or by subscribing, and we also have different bundle options and regular sales as well.
Make incomparable comparisons and justify taking everything and paying nothing for it all you like, but without enough people paying for these releases they will go under, that’s the long and the short of it. And with most of our lines we constantly live right on the line of production viability, and any dip in sales may well put us underneath it and make further releases no longer financially viable. As much as we love what we do, you can’t pay the bills with love. Just as you can’t expect that doing nothing but take, without giving anything back, isn’t ultimately a selfish act.

As posted elsewhere, unfortunately that is easier said than done. As with most torrent sites, the only take-down requests that are honoured are those made officially through legal representatives. Ones that are made by copyright holders such as us are routinely ignored, no matter how much proof of ownership we provide. Without the clear threat of possible legal action being taken, such requests can be easily ignored, and invariably are. As we know from previous experience.
This is why the only torrents that are taken down on such websites tend to be those that infringe against major corporations, studios, and networks, who can afford to have their own legal teams which routinely handle such matters on their behalf, and have no limitation to the amount and frequency of such requests they make. And yet even then, as soon as one torrent is removed, it is simply replaced by another soon after. So it becomes a rather fruitless act regardless of whether take-down notices are obeyed or not.
As a niche company we simply can’t afford to engage a legal representative just in order to issue take-down notices that may or may not be acted upon, and which will offer no long term solution regardless, so we are limited in our options of what we can do.
This is simply the way of things for smaller companies who have their intellectual property infringed upon in such a manner. We do what we can in the few manners left open to us, even as we know that nothing we do will ever actually stop such activity completely.

Any less selfish than you thieves, robbing a small, struggling company in a tax-oppressed nation just so that you can have something for free? Taking the bread out of the mouths of the people who work hard to create something that YOU ENJOY?
No, I didn’t put up that torrent, but a big, fat well done to the people who did! I am a loyal and faithful Big Finish listener and I’ve paid for EVERY audio I’ve had, all bought legit. I found this site through Google and at first I thought it was an online store, but when I found out it was full of illegal torrents I emailed Big Finish and told them. So yes, I probably did start this and yes, the Big Finish posts are genuine, but no, I didn’t put up that torrent. To be fair I wouldn’t know how to create and upload a torrent. Make what you want out of that, but Big Finish knows about you and that’s a fact. If you don’t believe I emailed them or that they emailed back, please feel free to comment your email address so I can send you some screencaps :)

As a chronically sick man who cant afford all the Big Finish Audios but buys what he can and downloads the rest I am saddened by what you did here YouKnowWhat.
You ruined this site for Big Finish fans who cant afford £50 - £70 on Audio Dramas. Don’t pretend to know us all and our circumstances before you take the moral high ground.
Big Finish are overlooking 2 things - I know a lot of paying customers who got into Big Finish through free torrents. Once the bug bites many folk want to collect the CD’s. Fo example students who cant afford £70 month who go on to become tomorrows high earners with the type of disposable income needed to collect Big Finish.
Secondly people like myself who love collecting Big Finish CD’s products and buy what we can afford (even when we cant afford it at times) but download the stuff they couldn’t afford as well as they genuinely love the audios.
As you say you can buy Season 8 Doctor Who TV say for £12 shipped on ebay that’s £3 less than 1 new audioplay release from Big Finish. I get that they have to met costs I do. However I feel attacking the relatively small amount of people who download will only hurt sales in the long run.

Big Finish has every reason and right to protect their brand. I, for one, really want them to remain solvent (profitable) because I hope to continue to enjoy their quality work for some time. They contribute to the culture in a great way. However, I see nothing wrong with a little bit of MODEST sharing. It’s the mass production and mass distribution of content that sucks.
Look at ABB, while they don’t directly distribute, they enable the distribution of other people’s work… and they profit from it. If ABB can do it, why can’t the media producers do it? Offer the public something like a 128k torrent with no extras or bonus material that has advertisements bundled into the torrent but not the actual media file and let people get to choose what they pay for that, continue the sales and special deals as well as the full price, 256k with bonus material, and high quality press cd’s and see what happens.
Media finance is structured all wrong, and the torrenting community is nothing but the logical result of that. That said, both sides should recognize that we need the folks on the other side.

This bickering is enough. BF is oh so glad their plan to stop the torrents has succeeded. What is the reason on blaming anyone for the torrents drying up? All the arguing is just causing undue attention to this site. The ones providing the material decided they did not want to risk being caught if BF or anyone threats were real or not. One way or another this site was going to be found out. It doesn’t matter if someone informed BF or they found this site on there own. What’s done is done. You can buy most of the releases from amazon 2nd hand in decent conditionfor less than half of the price as new. I have torrented releases from ranges other than doctor who and If I enjoyed them bought them direct from big finish if I could afford it and if not from amazon. I bought all the novel adaptations as the packaging is fantastic. I prefer to have the physical copies. This site intoduced me to Graceless, Countermeasures and Blakes 7. I bought the physical copies after this.

I’m not well off. I’m a live-in carer for my disabled partner and we’re both on benefits, she because she is severely ill and I because I have to look after her 24/7 and have for this reason been declared ineligible to seek employment. I get £88 a week Carer’s Allowance and £97 a fortnight Employment and Support Allowance and my partner gets ESA same rate as me and Personal Independence Payment £220 a month. That’s hardly riches beyond the dreams of avarice. I used to work before I met my partner; I was in the Royal Navy 12 years, worked hard, paid my dues and taxes, did my bit for Queen and country. Even I can’t afford absolutely everything Big Finish produces, but I save a little here and there (putting my bills and necessities first), get what I can and learn to live without the rest. I’m not without compassion, but if you can’t afford Big Finish stuff then that’s just hard luck. If they had wanted you to have it for nothing they’d be giving it away. They DO give things away! I myself discovered Big Finish through a CD that came free with Doctor Who Magazine. There are also lots of free clips posted by Big Finish themselves on Soundcloud and YouTube, as well as the trailers on their own website. You can’t use “loads of people got into it by torrenting” as an argument. Big Finish have made themselves very easy to find out about legitimately! The “sharing community” is a community of thieves. There’s no moral high anything to take here - piracy = theft. FACT. Stealing isn’t good for the economy and there is so much poverty because there is so much CRIME. If piracy continues to undermine Big Finish’s desperate struggle to subsist on what little it makes then Big Finish will eventually become bankrupt and liquidate. There will be no more audios made, and once you’ve downloaded all they’ve made so far you’ll have to stop, and once you’ve heard all the ones you’ve got over and over again you’ll be thinking, “It’s a real shame Big Finish went under.” And of course it will be, and it’ll be because of your precious “sharing community” with its head stuck up its sanctimonious backside robbing hard working people and acting like it’s a bloody charity. If you miss out on goodies because this is the way you get them then you have no one to blame other than yourselves. I’m sorry if that’s hard to take, but the truth often is.
Now there’s food for thought.

OK; not going to argue this. It’s just a fact, and forget how I know it- some of us have a lot more to lose than you think- but BF have not been posting on here.
This has become the go-to site for Big Finish audios and there are a number of rival site operators that want that traffic. They were instrumental in the “failure” of m’toast site. They have been planting crap on here to spread paranoia.
Rest assured, this is about competing site, not copyrights. I have spoken with a number of key players at BF and they confirm they would never get into this kind of mud wrestling. They would just bring legal action, but that’s not their style.
And, rest assured too, I know the identities of the agent provocateurs. They will find rather a lot of payback coming in the next few months.
If you let this debate influence you, then they have won. Just think about that. Some fucking Putinbot will effectively shut this site down because he can lie long and hard enough. I say, go right on, and kick the first Russian you see in the nuts!

Venom025. The main uploaders seem to be the ones taking all the risks here. Have you contributed to any uploads? I dont think you can complain. Have you paid big finish for any of their products? If not why not?
I dont know the uploaders sources but if they were sharing products they have paid for I dont blame them for scarpering. If the attitude I have seen from some here is an example they have been sharing to selfish people some who have admitted they have never bought from big finish and only listen because they get it free. Im glad they have stopped posting and feel really sorry for the ones who love these but genuinely cant afford to buy.

Yes the people sharing are the people who buy them from Big Finish they have £1000s of downloads (not everyone buys CDs) on their Big Finish Accounts why would they risk loosing all of that for some of people on here whose attitudes stinks to the high heavens! Your assuming that the uploaders had thousands of pounds worth of downloads on their accounts, unlikely I’d say, chances are most of them got the goods from elsewhere and just stuck em up here as as service to all. Not only that but there’s nothing stopping anyone buying a CD from Ebay/Amazon or anywhere else and starting this whole thing up again, which I personally would like to see not because I want anything but just because it would be a huge FU to BF and their high handed tactics.
How many of you bitching about this will be on PB tonight downloading? Yeah that’s what I thought, as for BF they should hang their heads in shame over this whole fiasco, they’ve made themselves look a laughing stock across the globe.

Come on Venom put your money where your mouth is in previous comments you said you couldn’t upload as they take to long to come to your local shop now apparently you buy direct from Big Finish including pre ordering!!
If you can use downloads from the big finish website (as a pre order you do) then you can upload the mp3 to a torrent on here its super easy to do, takes a few minutes and is as simple as downloading files off your Big Finish Account. Also Google is full of step by step guides so there is no excuse. You have kicked off the most at the uploaders not sharing due to the risks and yet twice you admit now to buying lots of Big Finish so come on fella step up! If you need help setting up a torrent and cant follow the simple guides then im sure loads of people here will talk you through it!

You’d have to be pretty damn delusional to think that it is Big Finish that is coming out of this looking bad, when you see the way they have behaved in comparison to the way that certain others here have acted because their stolen product supply has been temporarily interrupted (and temporary is all it will ever be, you can’t put the genie back in the bottle). Some people have acted so obnoxiously in their ridiculously self-entitled outrage that not even other downloaders want anything to do with them, or any of this, any longer. So nice work on that front, fellas, by alienating previous uploaders, posting idiotic conspiracy theories, and acting like first class assholes, you did far more to guarantee the death of Big Finish uploads here for a damn long time to come than Big Finish ever could have achieved by themselves. And not one of you are willing to put your own balls on the line by uploading new stuff, so every time you insult and label the previous uploaders who have (unsurprisingly) now all seemingly left or are lying low, you just make yourselves and your anger look more and more ridiculous and hollow.
